Edmond, OK (PRWEB) September 7, 2007 -- Leading cell phone recycling organization American Cell Phone Drive (http://www.americancellphonedrive.org) has announced its new program that will give a free cell phone for emergency use to those who cannot afford cell phone service.

The free emergency cell phone is equip with 911 services so that those are currently without a cell phone and cell phone plan can reach out for help should they find themselves in trouble.

The free emergency cell phone is available to any person who requests one through the company's website at http://www.americancellphonedrive.org/cell-phone-emergency-911.cfm

"Cell phones have become an invaluable resource for most Americans, but the high cost of phones and service plans leave many without a cell phone to use in cases of emergency. Our goal is to ensure that no one is without a cell phone to use to call for help when they need it," says Tom Pace, President of American Cell Phone Drive.org.

In addition to donating cell phones to those in need of emergency service, American Cell Phone Drive.org makes low cost service phones available to those in developing countries that cannot afford the cost of owning a cell phone that many in developed nations consider a staple.

Furthermore, the organization provides a valuable service that greatly reduces the environmental impact caused by cell phones in landfills. According to the EPA, more than 125 million cell phones are discarded each year, resulting in more than 65,000 tons of waste that can be avoided by taking part in American Cell Phone Drive's cell phone recycling program.

"With cell phone donation through the American Cell Phone Drive program, people are not only doing their part to protect the environment, they also raise money for their favorite charities simply by donating cell phones they no longer need," says Pace.

American Cell Phone drive currently partners with more than 4,000 non profit organizations to help them organize cell phone drives in their area and raise funds to further their mission. Those who wish to donate cell phones can also search the list of local non profit organization drop off centers that have partnered with American Cell Phone drive to raise money for their organizations.

"Most people have one or more cell phones sitting in a drawer or closet that they never plan on using again. Our mission is to turn this waste into hope for others."
